Solution Architect (Contract) ● Financial Conduct Authority ● November 2016 – Present
I was engaged by the FCA as a senior architect to work alongside a new Agile team to define the architectural engagement model for agile teams in the organisation. I also led the solution architecture for the FCA’s Insight solution, based on the Salesforce.com platform and Oracle Fusion Middleware SOA Suite.
The Insight solution was responsible for all but one of the FCA’s major line of business activities, including the public-facing Registration portal, the FCA Register, and the management of the Contact Centre. I created and chaired the solution design authority, as well as representing the solution to the (C-level) Technical Design Authority.
Enterprise Architect (Contract) ● Reed Exhibitions ● December 2013 – September 2016
I was engaged as a senior architect to bolster the enterprise architecture capability at the world’s largest event planning and exhibitions organisation, working within the newly formed Enterprise Architecture team to embed best practice. The organisation was moving from a “confederation of companies” to a “one company” strategy, which was supported by an Enterprise Architecture led £60m programme of change to introduce aligned systems and processes in the global organisation.
I was also responsible for vendor and solution selection, high level designs, managing the architectural relationship with senior stakeholders, and providing technical leadership throughout the planning, delivery and implementation phases.
Technical Solution Architect (Contract) ● Smart 421 at Haven Power ● October 2010 – October 2013
I led the end to end design and implementation of solutions for Smart421’s fast-growing electricity industry client. I predominantly focussed on energy trading and finance, but had project experience that also covered operations and sales. I engaged with business analysts to identify, validate and approve requirements, defined the architecture vision, created or approved high-level designs, reviewed and authorised detailed designs.
Technical Lead (Contract) ● System C ● February 2010 – October 2010
I was engaged to lead the design and development of a public sector project won at tender by a recent acquisition of this major healthcare consultancy. The project included production of detailed requirements, architecture vision, high level design and team leadership for a SCRUM team of developers and testers. I led the design and development of the solution which using technologies including Microsoft MVC, SQL Server, Entity Framework, jQuery etc. I engaged with stakeholders, controlled the project scope and negotiated additional budget with the customer when it was identified that the scope had been wrongly identified in the tender documents.
Technical Architect ● Corero ● June 2007 – February 2010
Lead technologist and product development manager for a suite of asset management products (corporate actions and new issues processing) with a client base of top tier investment banks and blue chip stockbrokers. With legacy solutions in technologies including VB6 and C++, I developed a roadmap for migration to the Microsoft .NET platform. I engaged with clients and internal stakeholders to manage the product road map, managed the development and testing team, managed the programme of change to deliver value to the customers as well as reducing technical debt, and engaged with customers to define, design and deliver consultancy-based change.

As part of my role at Reed Exhibitions, I became interested in machine learning and its applications. I developed the architecture of a global analytics platform at Reed, and began researching the topic in my own time. Since July 2016 I have been developing the analytics product behind a forthcoming air quality start-up, using AWS to host a machine learning and analytics solution using Kinesis, S3, Athena, EMR (Spark), and Lambda (Python).
I am also the CTO for a financial analytics start-up Lyrebird Analytics, where I use AWS EC2 and S3 for its infrastructure. This position involves some strategic planning, a small amount of pre-sales work, and occasional due diligence on proposals.
